President - Brett Timmons
Brett Timmons is an undergraduate working on a degree in zoology. He has recently received a research grant
from the Office of Research and Development. The grant will pay for materials and services related to yearlong
research projects set up and run by the students with support from faculty mentors. Under the advisement
of Dr Anita Kelly, Brett will examine the possibilities of using native and hybrid sunfish to control snail

Vice President - Andy Coursey
Andrew Coursey is originally from Burlington IA, and graduated with a B.S. in Zoology from SIUC in 2006.
He worked as a student worker for Dr. Ryan Lane throughout his undergraduate work and this piqued his interest
in fish nutrition. Andy is currently pursuing his master’s degree under the advisement of Dr. Chris Kohler,
examining marine feedstuff replacement in Largemouth Bass Diets.

Secretary/treasurer - Mike Stahl
Mike Stahl is originally from Milan, Illinois. He obtained his undergraduate degree in biological sciences
from Illinois State University in 2004. During the summer of 2004, Mike had an internship with the Illinois
Department of Natural Resources in Gibson City, Illinois. He helped fisheries biologists Mike Garthaus and
Trent Thomas collect data on the lakes and streams in their region for implementing best management practices.
After graduating, Mike accepted a MS graduate research assistantship under Dr. Anita Kelly at Southern Illinois
University-Carbondale in June 2005 which was the same university that Mr. Garthaus also received his master’s
degree. He has been analyzing the reproductive physiology parameters of shovelnose sturgeon in the middle
Mississippi River for developing management strategies for this specific species. Currently, he is writing
his master’s thesis and applying for employment opportunities. mtstahl@siu.edu
