1st Annual Touch of Nature Clean up and Fish Fry
The club is currently organizing a day of clean up/fish fry to clean the SIUC aquaculture facilities at Touch of Nature. This event is aimed as a day of service as well as a social event for the club and will help the managers of the facility in order to maintain the facilities.
SIUC Aquaculture Conference
The Subunit is currently in the planning stage of designing a conference to be held in conjunction with the Illinois Aquaculture Extension Office teaching locals interested in starting or maintaining a fish farm. The students are currently reviewing local speakers to talk on a number of issues from the best species to grow for your particular situation, how to best manage your facility, parasitic infestations and how to manage them to nutrition of species raised.
Educational programs for children
The Subunit plans to develop educational programs by working with the local Children's Museum of Southern Illinois. The Center provides several educational programs during the summer for several age groups. The Subunit is currently developing programs to educate children on topics concerning aquatic animals, pollution, and sustainability.
Bylaws amendments
Currently the subunit officers are looking to amend the bylaws so that one person can hold both the Treasurer, and Secretary positions in order to facilitate the ease of scheduling meetings and strengthen the core duties of the officers? positions.
